How to strengthen your dog’s immune system?
What is the body’s immunity?
The basic function of the immune system is to prevent bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi from entering the body, and therefore, to prevent the development of disease. This is done by distinguishing healthy body tissues from harmful pathogens by immune cells.
We can distinguish two types of immune immunity:
- specific (acquired) – a response that develops much slower (even up to several days), acquired through vaccination, past infection or antibodies transmitted through mother’s milk. Precise response
- non-specific (innate) – an immediate response that prevents foreign particles from entering the body. The response is achieved by removing microorganisms through coughing, sneezing, diarrhea, but also by preventing microorganisms from entering through the skin and mucous membrane barrier.
For the entire immune system to function fully, each of these elements must function properly.
What are the causes of decreased immunity in dogs?
There can be many causes of decreased immunity. The most common include:
- intestinal microbiota disorders
- feeding poorly selected food
- conditions in which the animal lives every day
- medications that the animal takes
- age of the animal
- chronic diseases or genetic burden
- occurrence of parasitic invasion
- stress
How to strengthen the immune system of a dog?
A decrease in the body’s immunity is a dangerous phenomenon because it can lead to the development of diseases, which is why its support is crucial for maintaining health. One of the most effective methods of preventing a decrease in immunity is the use of a high-quality, well-balanced diet, rich in essential nutrients. An appropriate dose of exercise is equally important. Appropriate, i.e. adapted to both the size, age and breed of the animal. It is also important to meet the emotional and socialization needs of dogs.
We can also reach for additional support in the form of supplements. The most effective of them include: beta-glucan, HMB and Omega-3 acids, probiotics or synbiotics.
Beta-glucan
It is a polysaccharide, i.e. a complex sugar, which is a fragment of fiber, which is found in the cell walls of yeast, fungi and cereals. Beta-glucan stimulates the immune response in situations when the body is weakened. In periods of reduced immunity, it is worth giving your dog Game Dog Immunity Treats, i.e. functional cookies with a high content of beta-glucan. They will also work great in the post-vaccination period.
HMB
3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid is a substance that is endogenously produced in the dog’s body in small amounts and is worth supplementing additionally. HMB stops the development of infection by stimulating the activity of phagocytes. Game Dog offers HMB in both tablet form Game Dog HMB tab and powder form Game Dog HMB 200g.
Omega-3
Omega-3 acids, i.e. the source of EPA and DHA fatty acids, have a very wide range of applications. One of the most important is their strong anti-inflammatory effect, which significantly helps in the fight against infections. On a daily basis, it is worth supplementing dogs with Game Dog Omega Forte oil in capsules or Game Dog Krill Oil, which contain a highly concentrated dose of EPA and DHA acids and have certificates confirming the highest quality of the raw materials used and ensuring safe use.
